From Our School to New Beginnings

As part of our PAVE PATH PROGRAM, we aim to connect our students with various opportunities, such as volunteering, internships, and scholarships.
This October, we received the exciting news that Herberth Galindo, a student who has been with us his entire life, applied for one of these scholarships and won a 75% coverage scholarship to continue his studies!
We are proud not only to see him graduate this year but also to watch him embrace this incredible opportunity ahead of him.
Ingrid de Cuadra, our Pave Path coordinator, went to see him and was called on stage to congratulate not only him but also the school itself.
-HIGHLIGHT EVENT –
A Joyful Independence Celebration
On September 15th, we held a joyful celebration of independence, and throughout the entire month, we embraced the richness of our culture. From the youngest students to our dedicated teachers, everyone had a moment to honor the traditions that define us. As we wrapped up the National Holidays at the end of the month, we were treated to a series of diverse and beautiful performances that filled us with pride:
• Luciana Mauricio delivered a stunning rendition
of Fronteras by Gaby Moreno, a renowned
Guatemalan artist.

• Our 1st graders melted hearts with their spirited performance of the traditional song Yo Soy Puro Guatemalteco, reminding us all of our deep roots.
• The 3rd and 4th graders took the stage to sing De Qué Sirve Querer, a beloved song by one of Guatemala’s coolest bands, Malacates del Trevor, showing o their vocal talent and youthful energy.

• A group of our 8th graders brought the ancient Dance of the Monkeys to life. In Mayan cosmology, monkeys hold great significance, and as told in the Popol Vuh, the first men, who once ran wild and climbed trees uncontrollably, were transformed into monkeys. Our students masterfully reenacted this passage, reviving the essence of Mayan mythology.

• Our teachers closed the festivities with the lively Dance of the Old Ladies, also known as the Dance of the Mazates. This traditional Verapaz dance, one of Guatemala’s oldest, was performed with humor and charm. Dressed in traditional costumes and elderly masks, the dancers humorously shifted from frail movements to energetic steps, adding playful falls along the way. This timeless tradition, unchanged since before the conquest, connected us with our heritage.

It was a celebration brimming with pride, tradition, and unity—a true reflection of the spirit of Guatemala!

Rain, Kites, and the Melody of Smiles.
When our amazing CAUKIN Studio volunteers arrived to help build the playground, we wanted them to feel right at home and get a taste of our vibrant culture. So, we decided to host a kite-making workshop—a true
Guatemalan tradition! You see, kites here aren’t just colorful flying objects; they represent a beautiful connection between life and death, allowing us to honor our loved ones who have moved on to the beyond.

With our talented art teacher leading the way, each volunteer was paired
with a student who eagerly translated and shared the meaning behind this joyful activity. Day one was all about crafting the kites, with laughter and creativity filling the air. But the next day, when it was time to fly those beauties, Mother Nature had a little surprise in store for us: rain!
Undeterred, the students and volunteers huddled under our art class awning, waiting for the downpour to lighten. Then, with a burst of enthusiasm, they sprinted outside, kites in hand, hoping to catch a breeze. Did the kites soar? Not quite! But the sight of our volunteers and students racing around, laughing, and chasing dreams in the rain was truly magical.
