¡Hola! It's nice to meet you.
Help provide education for a student in need
Of the 86 students who receive scholarships from us, 16 have their own dedicated sponsors. The rest get support from our General Scholarship Fund. We customize scholarship amounts based on each family’s financial situation. Our process includes interviewing the families, visiting their homes, and keeping in touch all year to make sure the students get the right amount of help they need to succeed.
Students on Scholarship
Students in Need
Students who complete our program leave ready to lead.
It takes $200 a month to educate a child at Colegio Mesoamericano. Your donation can help Colegio Mesoamericano students immediately, while making a difference that can last for generations.
What your donation provides:
tuition x fees
one meal a day
books x supplies
What do we look for in a Kid? (GENI)
To ensure your contributions reach students in need, we’ve established GENI, which stands for Grit, Emotional Intelligence, Need, and Intelligence Quotient. We are committed to these principles.
It reflects determination and resilience; This characteristic enables students to persist through adversity, making them better equipped to seize the opportunities presented to them.
Emotional Intelligence (EQ)
Students with a reasonable EQ can adapt to changes, integrate better into our system, navigate challenges, and build meaningful relationships.
Getting to know the families’ needs helps us share resources fairly and effectively. It also lets us understand the students’ challenges better so we can support them properly.
Intelligence Quotient (IQ)
IQ can indicate a person’s ability to solve problems and understand complex concepts. It’s often used to predict academic success and potential in various professions.
What they say about us
Raving reviews from donors and parents of scholarship students.
“As a firefighter, there are times when I work 24-hour shifts and hardly get to see my family. As a single parent, preparing my sons lunch or leaving him alone to take the bus in the morning have been a little worrying for me. Without the help of Meso and his sponsor none of this would be possible.”Rodrigo CantúParent of Scholarship Student
“What I liked about the foundation was that we could see directly where our investment was going. We could see that there were specific goals that the school had. There was a real interest in helping these students get an education, which is really the key to opportunities in life.”Holly JensenMeso Donor
“The school has a more humanistic approach, an authentic interest in children and young people as human beings and that generates a very beautiful environment. The support of Colegio Meso has also made me grow as a person, not only as a teacher, because if one grows the school is growing. I have felt supported.”Selvin AvilaTeacher x Parent of Scholarship Student
“I live in North Carolina, United States and work as an elementary school teacher. In my work, I have met many Guatemalan peers who have helped me greatly. I felt called to donate to the Meso Foundation’s cause and support education for Guatemalan children.”Jenny NgoMeso Donor
Sara Beatriz Vicente Gomez
Sara, a psychology major and former Meso scholarship student, regularly meets with our students, working alongside their teachers and parents, to support their well-being and ensure they meet our scholarship criteria. Our bi-monthly challenges, part of the Indigo program, focus on personal growth and emotional health. In their final year, we also assist students with applications for post-graduation scholarships and opportunities.
Questions we often get:
Absolutely! Meso Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which makes your donation tax-deductible. You will receive the appropriate tax form at the end of the tax year.
EVERY cent you donate is used solely for the students’ education—none of it goes to admin costs. Your support is fully invested in our students’ learning and success.
As a donor to our General Fund scholarship, here’s what you’ll get:
- A newsletter every two months packed with uplifting stories and the latest news.
- An invite to our exclusive Facebook group, where you’ll get special updates and behind-the-scenes looks at our school’s work.
- An annual report that shows how your donations have made a difference, including how many students you’ve helped and the good your support is doing.
As a General Fund scholarship donor, your generous gift helps a group of students without individual sponsors. If you’d like to support a specific child, you’re welcome to become a personal sponsor. Although you can’t choose a specific student, you can tell us if you’d prefer to sponsor a girl or a boy, and we’ll keep that in mind. As a personal sponsor, you can look forward to:
- Getting to know your sponsored student through Zoom calls.
- Getting updates on their progress every two months.
- Being part of a private Facebook group for an insider’s view of our school.
- Receiving a small Christmas gift from your sponsored student as a token of appreciation.
Not at all, there’s no ongoing commitment required. Whether you make a one-time gift or more, we appreciate your support. Every bit helps, and your contribution makes a real difference in our students’ lives.
We’re excited at the thought of you visiting! If you’re heading to Guatemala, drop us a line. We’d be happy to suggest some must-see spots and set up a tour of our school so you can see our work firsthand.
Just a heads-up, our school year runs from January 15th to October 15th. If you come outside these months, we can still show you around, but the students will be on break so you won’t get to meet them.
